What kinds of stretches you would do… etc..
Well, at my studio we do wall stretch, which is a stretch where you put you butt against the wall and then open your legs as far as they can go. It helps work your middle split. For other studios you might do simple group stretching. For example, butterfly, lounges, touching your toes, ect. Then you will usually do different things across the floor like turns or jumps in a short combination. Then you usually do a longer combination where you learn a short dance and perform it. This is where you normally try to express yourself. Just do what the teacher asks and you will do fine.
I REALLY can’t dance, is it possible to learn without taking lessons? And if so how?
You can teach yourself pop styles, but as you might have seen in the case of Cedric Gardner who was eliminated from the latest season of "So You Think You Can Dance," it won’t get you very far. In his moving speech, Cedric advised aspiring dancers to get themselves to dance classes. The more technical the style of dance, the more imperative it is to have a qualified teacher give you corrections.
